Okay, so if you haven’t seen or heard of these lip products, then you’ve probably been living under a rock. These lil tubes rocketed to social media stardom straight after their release, due to NYX’s very successful line of liquid-to-matte lipsticks. The real selling point of these is the lingerie shade range – meaning all of the colours are somewhat, nudes. Being completely honest, this is definitely what attracted me to them as I am a complete sucker for anything that’s beauty novelty.
Thing is, many brands have now launched their own line of liquid matte lippies (jumping on the hype, so to speak) and many of them are doing it so, so well. As these NYX Lip Lingeries only retail for about £6.50, on the more affordable end of the liquid lippy spectrum, I just had to investigate.
I popped down to my local Boots, which has a NYX counter – yes, I do feel blessed – and bought the shades Exotic & Teddy. I did have to buy them on two separate occasions, as they are simply flying off the shelves rn. However, I really didn’t want to settle and buy any of the shades that were in stock, that wouldn’t suit my skintone at all.
Ohhh I do like this packaging, guys, I like it a lot. There’s just something about simplistic packaging that makes my heart beat a little faster. The clear tube displaying the product with iconic lettering is just perfect for a low-budget drugstore product. I sometimes feel like the drugstore goes too H.A.M on trying to get their products to look fancy, whereas this has way more of an impact on me personally.
The applicator is a long, flat doe tip – and to be honest, I’m not going to rave about it. The applicator is pretty standard, and I would much prefer a round tipped doe like you would see on many other liquid lipsticks as this one can be a little tricky to apply with and doesn’t hold a generous amount of product.
Even though the shade range is pretty impressive for an exclusively “nude” collection, I decided to pick up two shades that are some of the least nudey-nudes, if you feel me. A plain flat nude in a liquid-to-matte always looks a big off on my yellow undertoned skin, so I always opt out of that one – no offence, NYX!
EXOTIC – Uhhhh can we just appreciate this shade for a moment? This was the one, the one I fell in love with right from the very first release, and I waited months for it to be stocked at my local NYX counter. It’s just that very on trend blush pink nude that works on so many skin tones, and boy is it flattering.
TEDDY – I picked up Teddy as soon as I saw that it was in stock (yes, I do tend to loiter around the NYX counter) as it is definitely more up my street than any of the other brown-toned nudes. It has a slight mauve undertone that slayyyys right now, so I would say that this is more of a dusty mid-brown.
Even after reading and watching so many reviews on these lip products, I was still pretty shocked by the moussey consistency. It creates quite a thick layer when applied, so you can easily build up opaquity without streaks. I did also notice a slightly chemically smell to these, so if you aren’t about that I would stay away from them!
Once on, this does take slightly longer to dry than expected, but again I think this down to the thickness of the formula. After allowing it to fully dry, there is still a bit of tackiness to the product, which I’m not crazy about. But hey, these are definitely smudge proof and transfer proof, which is just fab.
I’m really glad that I invested in a few of these liquid lippies, the formula is great and I love the way they look on my lips. For me, they tick all my boxes for a great liquid lippy. However, I wont be buying any more.
Why? Well I have the shades that I really wanted, and the others are just too same-samey for my liking. I think that this product is a definitely some form of novelty item, and it’s just so easy to try and collect them all! I’m so glad that I invested in these two shades though, and will definitely be getting good use out of them.
