You can barely watch a youtube makeup tutorial these days without theBalm’s original Mary-Lou Manizer being mentioned, and therefore I really did have to see whether it was as good as everyone makes it out to be and finally do a Mary-Lou Manizer Review.
At an RRP of £17.50 it is quite a high end product, and I had never tried anything from the theBalm before, so this was an exciting endeavour. Luckily enough, I managed to get mine on a Black Friday deal for £14.00 (with free P&P), thank you Feel Unique!
PS It was only when I actually went to order the product that I realised that it’s called “Lou Manizer” as in “Luminizer”…
Unfortunately, I think that I’m probably the only person that hates this packaging. I prefer chic, minimalistic, and edgy product packaging – and this doesn’t offer any of that. The actual silver plastic casing is great, I love it. There isn’t anything quite like the satisfying *click* of the lid when you shut it, and the product feels very sturdy. In my opinion, the sticker is kind of tacky and ruins it a bit for me – it doesn’t look like a high end product, hmmm.
My first impressions on opening the product was literally “wowwwww“, out loud. It’s just stunning, I can’t stress that enough. It looks like what I could only describe as: glow, in powder form.
This is the original Mary-Lou Manizer Luminizer, and is a gorgeous shimmery champagne gold colour. Due to the fact that it’s a yellow-based highlighter, it suits my yellow-undertoned skin so, so well. However, I see it working for a variety of light-mid skin tones.
After one swatch, I was completely sold on this product. The colour pay-off is immense, oh and all the shimmer in the pan really does show up on the skin.
Unlike some highlighters that can have “chunks” of glitter, this one is so finely milled that the shimmer evenly distributes itself on the skin with one swipe of the brush. A little really does go a long way with this stuff, however it is definitely build-able for strobing/daytime use.
Although I’m always slightly sceptical when it comes to “cult” buys, this one really did exceed all expectations. I don’t know why, but I was so sure that this wouldn’t live up to all the raving reviews – I take it all back, this stuff is so worth the dollar. I will definitely be integrating this into my everyday make up bag, and I think it has the potential to become my favourite highlighting product.
Thank you everyone who brought it to my attention, I.O.U!
