Why Becoming A Blogging Ghost Was The Best Start To 2017

Hey guys, remember me? Let me re-introduce myself: I’m Holly, The Kitty Luxe, & I’ve been a very “bad blogger” over the last month. Yup, I’ve been ghosting and sorry, not sorry, I enjoyed every moment of it. I’ve absolutely loved waking up in the morning and simply not revolving my life around instagrammable-ness (Is that a word? It is now…), and simply not being totally concerned about my online presence. It’s been so freeing, and I have #noregrets.

For the past month, I just didn’t have to feel guilty about spending all day in joggers and a comfy knit. I was balls-deep in Mechanical Engineering and the last thing I wanted to be concerned about was which classic pointed-toe boot to wear with my new embroidered blouse tbh, couldn’t think of anything worse. I also hadn’t worn makeup, pretty much, for a whole month, and I do now have a seriously large stack of makeup that I need to trial and test asap. Daily exposure of dark shadows under my eyes, acne scarring, and uneven skin tone became the norm. No selfies, no photoshoots – nothing.

At first, the lack of content was so strange that I did actually have anxiety about it – I mean, what on earth was I going to post on my blog/Instagram in terms of beauty or fashion? But I learned to let it go.

No need for a super chic, yet albeit, uncomfortable outfit for those “goals” comments of all the heart-eye emojis. I literally lived in PJ’s, jogging bottoms, and oversized knitwear (& yes, I did over  indulge), Old Skool Vans were my go-to footwear solution – & I was the complete polar opposite to blogger “goals” as possible. The preconception of my awful, dull makeup-less face faded and my natural skin started looking incredibly normal to me. If you were wondering, I found it all so bloody freeing.

I feel like we all get wrapped up in the blogging world way too easily. Having that little break away from the pressures of blogging and social media has done wonders for me, and I really feel like I’ve almost re-connected to the real world. What really mattered in the last month, was me. Exclusively prioritising myself, my wants, and my needs was so different to revolving my life directly around my blog, and I urge every blogger to consider a day, a week, a fortnight, away from the pressures of the blogging lyf. Trust me, you wont regret it.

Fantastic post – totally agree that being a blogger can get really tough sometimes. Taking a break is absolutely necessary. It can get so overwhelming planning content, writing content, getting photos, posting blog posts, sharing blog posts. Then keeping up with all the social media. It's tough! Glad you enjoyed your break! x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

I totally agree that reconnecting with the real world is what truly matters! Whenever I switch off to read a book, watch a film or just go out and explore, I always end up feeling so much more inspired and happy, than if I've been scrolling through various online feeds for hours and hours. I'm already planning on making one day of my week a complete relaxation/stress free zone, but, now I've read this post, I'm tempted to make it an internet-free one too!! 🙂
