I rarely ever do any blog posts on beauty base essentials, and it’s time for change! The Body Shop kindly sent me over a big starter pack full to the brim with TBS makeup to have a play with, and safe to say, I’ve found some holy grail products. Out of everything they sent over, their base makeup really does standout amongst the rest. Here’s my top pick out of the bunch, enjoy!
I really didn’t think I was going to like this foundation as it’s “Fresh Nude” name doesn’t bode well for an oily skin gal. Full of aloe and rosewater, this lightweight foundation promises to hydrate the skin and leave you feeling comfortable, all day. Weirdly enough, this looks natural and dewy on me..all day. Yup, even with only skin – this stayed put and looked fresh and hydrating on the skin. The only issue I had was the oily slick that formed on my t-zone, but this is something that happens with 99% of foundations. I did try to bake my nose with powder and it still gets pretty oily on the tip, so make sure to bring your blotting papers/powders if you’re out and about during the day.
If you love silicon pore-filling primers, you’re going to love this. If you don’t, I’d suggest not picking this one up. A proper marmite product this is, but for me, it gets a big YAAAAS. I have massive pores on my nose and cheeks and I really do need to fill them before applying foundation to get a really smooth base going. This is a really thick, silicon-feeling primer so you do need to “press” it into the skin rather than smoothing it on, and I would suggest targeting your large pores only! I’ve found that it really does the job without my makeup slipping off (a serious faux pas of some silicon primers). Plus, it really does work to mattify these areas too!
Very similar to the YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch, this brightening concealer acts more like a highlight than a concealer really but the effect on the skin is beautiful. It’s a real shame this is so pink toned, all of the shades seem to be, which is unfortunate for my olive skin! I have a light skin tone with olive/yellow undertones and this is for sure, too pink for me. Sadly, they don’t have a more yellow version of this so I’ve been adapting it as a targeted cream highlight! I’ve been popping this on my brow bone, down the bridge of my nose, and on my cheekbones and then blending out with my makeup sponge. This gives a really pretty “strobed” effect which you can dust a little powder highlight over for a more *poppping* impact.
Unbelievable gutted that I was sent this in “Bright Glow” not “Peach Glow” as this is so pinky white against my yellow undertones, I literally can’t use it as part of my base. Genuinely, this doesn’t work as a CC, a primer, a pre-foundation glow… or anything like that on me. The formula itself, however, is really nice guys. This has an SPF 20, which is fab as it both boosts your glowy base and gives you added protection.
Weird, but I accidentally put this on as a liquid highlight but I think you’re supposed to mix this with foundations to create a more glowy, dewy look on the skin. I really enjoy this as a highlight actually, especially as I have too much of an oily complexion to add this into my foundations. I popped this on the back of my hand and picked it up with a damp beauty sponge, then I layered it on my cheekbones and cupids bow with a “tapping” motion. The result is a very lit-from-within glow, which I love, I only wish it came in more of a champagne shade as I have strong yellow undertones to my skin – the pink can be slightly jarring if I don’t top it with a gold highlight.
