If you’re a creative who’s big into style, you’ve probably found yourself yourself in the difficult online shoe shopping predicament like me… Where simply clicking “New In – Shoes”, scrolling through countless pages, leaves you with an underwhelmingly empty basket because nothing has really tickled your fancy and made you make the “oooh” sounds that one makes when they fall in love with a kickass pair of heels/flats/boots/etc.
After inevitably realising that no shoe I find on the high street will ever be truly made to my personal taste, I usually then find myself pondering the idea of possibly entering a sort of “Create-A-Sim” mode and finally get to work crafting my own shoe design. I mean, how amazing would that be? Selecting every material, heel shape, toe design, and get them made to fit to my specifications – Sounds like a dream… and now it’s a reality. I received one of the most exciting emails to date a few weeks back, when Shoes of Prey* got in contact to ask if I (as a petite blogger) would like to design a pair of shoes to suit my style, and my size.
After a bit of nosying around on the internet, I found out that Shoes of Prey* cater for fits Narrow – Extra Wide and UK shoes sizes 1 – 13 (with some half sizes too) which I find absolutely amazing. I can imagine that having feet that are on either size of the “average shoe size” spectrum makes things pretty difficult when shopping for a size that really speaks your true style. The sizing options resonate with my criteria of being a little chunky, wide UK size 4 for sure, and I couldn’t wait to explore more on their website and start the designing process.
On the Shoes of Prey website, you can start off the design process by selecting available design outlines for your specific needs, whether that be a larger/smaller than average size or perhaps a Narrow/Wide/Extra Wide fit. I opted for “Size 4” and “Wide Fit” to see which styles are going to work for my needs and to my surprise, I had so much choice! I was very tempted by the Vega 40*, and Lungo 100*, I just had to go for the Oscuri 70* (£157) as my base design. Now to get to work & make these bad boys mine!

Boohoo Olivia Large Pom Pom Basket Bag (similar)
Firstly, I switched the front to a rounded toe cap (hello killer Chanel dupe vibes) and swapped the heel to a 2.8 inch angled block for a little added height for my petite 5ft1 frame. Of course, I went for the slingback – which fyi is the shoe of the season and I can’t get enough of this fit! It really does add a very timeless classic look to any shoe design.
Colour-wise I wanted to go neutral so I could rock these babies with a number of outfits and also have them as “dress up my jeans” heels too! So I opted for Cappuccino Nappa Leather two ways, with a black leather for the toe cap. You can also fully customise the lining with a material and colour of your choice and the sole of the shoe can be either classic black or beige, which imo makes all the difference when it comes to truly making a shoe your own design down to the little details.
Last but not least, you can add a personalised detail (£45.00) to the lining of the shoe which is perfect for inscribing with your name, a message to a friend if it’s a gift, or perhaps super cute memorial bridesmaid shoes for a wedding! This was probably my favourite part of the design process as I completely forgot that I could personalise these adorbz slingbacks until I finished designing and entered the checkout stage – Such a cayooot surprise! I went with “shoe love is true love” & a mini gold heart for the purrrrrfect show quote customisation.
