Aiiiight, so it’s been a while since I went all “beauty blogger” over here at TKL. I know, it’s been some time since I got excited about a makeup product and that’s why I’ve been a little quiet on the makeup side of things. I’ve also been saving the mula for my trip to Stockholm next week (blog/IG posts to come, don’t you worry) so I haven’t been a gal splashing the cash about. Better be proud, this kit kat didn’t even spend money on makeup in the Boxing Day sales…
Uhhhh, anyways I have a new ~fave~ product to share with you lovely lot that I *disclaimer* buy myself, but I totally would repurchase if more shades came out because I’m #obsessed much. As an avid matte-lip fan, I’m up for trying any lip product with the word “matte” in the title (I know, I’m easy) and promises of being “extremely longwearing” and “comfortable” are a plus. Queue the new PIXI MatteLast formula, which is infused with Rose Hip oil and dries as a “matte veil” on the lips for hydrating colour. Ummm yassss please?
Retailing for a more high-end price tag of £16.00 per lipstick, the PIXI MatteLast formula has a lot to live up to. Not only would you expect a top notch lip product for the hefty price of £16 squids a pop, but it would have to rival lip products of similarly prices brands, ie MAC. Fyi, a MAC lippy will set you back around-and-about the same price and they do have a wide range of shades and finishes that are generally well known for being a good lip buy, hence making a fab comparison point price-wise.
The PIXI MatteLast comes in a more succinct collection of 6 shades…. but no brights in sight. Genuinely shocked that PIXI didn’t release a London bus red (yes, this really is my fave colour red) or even put a pop of coral or fuchsia in the mix. It might be something they’re working on, or perhaps the more bright shades just don’t work with this formula. But really, this collection is only for you if you like pinks and nudes. Soz, guys!
PIXI sent me over the new MatteLast liquid lipstick formula to try out in the shades:
1. Pastel Petal – Medium nude with pink undertones
2. Matte Beige – Medium nude with brown undertones
3. Au Naturelle – Medium nude with peach undertones
4. Evening Rose – Deep pink with mauve undertones
5. Really Rose – Deep pink with peach undertones
By far, Matte Beige and Evening Rose are my faves purely because the shades look the best on my skin tone, personally. However, surprisingly enough the formula is pretty true for all of the shades I own,, and you only need one swipe *yes, really* for true opacity! Well impressed, PIXI!
I’m wearing the shade Matte Beige in the images below, plus I downed a cup of coffee before the shoot and the lipstick looks practically untouched, I wouldn’t be able to tell anyway!
The wet formula isn’t the quickest at drying, it takes a good ten minutes for the formula to completely dry down – but I have a feeling this is the secret to the formula. Eventually the wet liquid lipstick dies to a very comfortable satin-matte finish which is still a tiny bit “paste”-like to the touch. Nothing that will transfer or feel sticky, just really comfortable. If you’re really not into the finish, you can always top with a nude gloss and the colour still lasts really well underneath!
The one thing that really stands out for me, is the ability for this product to stay on my bloody lips without drying them out – absolute madness. The formula still emphasises texture like all liquid lipstick formulas do. However, it really does a good job at staying hydrated and not peeling and flaking off during the day. I haven’t tried layering these yet, but I think it’ll be next weeks challenge. All in all, a v. good addition to my liquid lipstick collection – Just launch some more shades in the MatteLast formula, PIXI!
