So I do have quite a few products on the agenda, as I did manage to forget to write up a May Monthly Faves update – oops. So this month’s faves post is a teeny bit longer than usual, plus it features no gifted products whatsoever, yep, I bought all of these bad boys with my own $$$. So grab a cuppa, get comfy, let’s do this.
BOURJOIS HEALTHY MIX SERUM FOUNDATION in Vanilla
If you’ve watched my YouTube vlogs at all, or even spotted my makeup vids on IG, you’ll know that I’ve fallen madly in love with this foundation. I’ll admit, I spent a while trying to avoid this product because everyone was raving about it. However, I can 100% now see why. It’s a wonderful Semi-Matte texture, and glides on perfectly – even on my oily skin.
The coverage is light, however this is perfect for an everyday fresh faced look. I have found that this does not apply well with a sponge, so I use my Makeup Geek Foundation Stippling Brush, which applies it flawlessly. It does last pretty decently on my oily skin, which is a-okay because it smells like fruit – magical. The only gripe that I have with this foundation, is that the shade selection is so poor. I’m usually the Light-Medium category when it comes to foundation & wouldn’t say that I have the palest skin …. and I use the 2nd fairest shade available, hmmm.
I have become so obsessed with taking a few squeezes of this illuminator liquid and mixing it in with my old, unloved foundations to give them a new lease of life. This product, paired with NARS Sheer Glow foundation, is a particularly good match. So I basically use it like the new Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops, however this product is about £10 cheaper, and you get double the amount of product – it’s a no brainer.
Copacabana is a cool, pearlescent, pale pink shade, and adds such a pretty glistening sheen to the face, even under your foundation as an illuminating primer. I really like mixing it in though, as it actually prevents me from looking greasy as I have a subtle sheen all over my face all day!
NYX HD STUDIO FINISHING POWDER
I definitely need to rave about this more, as I’m now on my second lil pot of this powder – long story short, it is fab. I’d been looking for a good high street version of the high end loose setting powders for a few months when I bumped into this one at the NYX counter at my local Boots store. I just loved the fact that there was no colour to the product at all. Not even a little cheeky “it’s translucent but has a weird beige colour” – it’s completely white.
It’s 100% pure mineral silica, and does a great job at setting your makeup, yassss even oily gals can use this, without leaving you with lifeless matte skin. I wouldn’t suggest baking with this though, as it caused my concealer to oxidise. It really was a hot mess and had awful flashback, but apply with a brush & you’re all guuuud.
This got pushed to the back of my makeup drawer after the first month of using it. Basically I had bought the Mary Lou Manizer, and well, it just couldn’t compete. Little did I know, I was using the product all wrong. If you have me on Snapchat (thekittyluxe) you’ll have seen that my Mary Lou broke into a million pieces after my journey to London and my little kitty heart broke too.
After the incident, I grabbed this one from it’s hiding place and noticed that it bears a resemblance to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. Instead of trying to apply it as a highlighter, I swirl my brush over all of the three buttery shades and use it as a finishing powder all over my face. Voilà – instant Snapchat filter.
This is another golden oldie that I dug out of a makeup bag at the back of my wardrobe and instantly regretted ever putting this baby away. You guys know that the Luminoso blush is my ultimate favourite, however this shade – Berry Amore – is even more perfect for Spring. Yup, I went there. The baked blushes from Milani are all highly pigmented and blendable – a little really does go a long way.
It’s a gorgeous peachy-pink, with marbled accents of gold shimmer and slightly darker blush pink. The result is a glowing cheek that has that natural “I’ve just caught the sun” look.
Yes, yes, yes, I jumped on the bandwagon and bought Fix +. I don’t anything special to say about this, as everyone and their mum has this fixing mist. However, I do really love the way it makes my foundation look, and it makes my powder-to-wet shadows last all day. Is it worth the £17.00, I’m not quite sure – however, I have been using this almost every makeup day.
When you didn’t think you could love Kathleen Lights anymore, and she comes out with this shadow. From my experience all of the Supershock shadows are a stunning texture, they have almost a creamy feel to them, which makes them so smooth and full of pigment. However, this is the only Kathleen Lights eyeshadow shade that I picked up in my Colourpop Haul as it’s the only one I could actually see myself wearing. It’s a beautifully shimmery rose gold that is the perfect all over lid colour for any warm look. I love teaming it with burnt red shades and a yellow toned inner corner highlight for a pretty sunset vibe.
I think that this may be my 3rd purchase of this liner, and I may have mentioned it in a fave post already (naughty, naughty) but I thought I’d give it a mention, as it’s so bloody good. I can’t get over how long the liner lasts without drying out, especially as it does have a felt tip to it.
The product itself isn’t matte, nor is it glossy, but that doesn’t bother me as it creates fully opaque, waterproof lines that really do last all day without smudging. As I have hooked eyes (my upper lids overhang onto my lower eyelids) this is so important as liner tends to move and transfer onto my upper lid very easily. This liner? 10/10 – Would defo recommend.
NYX MICRO BROW PENCIL in Ash Brown
After having an awful run in with the new ABH Brow Definier, I decided to head down to the good ol’ drugstore to find something to help fill in and define my brows on an everyday basis, without breaking the bank.
After having a gander online, I decided upon the NYX Micro Brow Pencil and initially I was going for Chocolate, but after giving it a swatch in store I soon found that the majority of the shades are very, very warm toned. Even though I have natural auburn undertones to my hair, this colour just did not work for me so I opted for the deeper, more cool toned, Ash Brown – and I love it.
The texture is just right to get a defined brow, without going overboard on the filling in part. Plus, it has a built in spoolie (I can’t do my brows without one) so I’ve already dubbed this as my travelling saviour. The longevity of this product isn’t amazing, but for £7.00, I’ll be popping this in my bag for daily touch ups.
Last but not least is my favourite CT lippy in Bond Girl, a gorgeous mauvey pink shade which has me swooning this season. I did buy this back in winter and wasn’t all that fussed (I became obsessed with Glastonberry instead), but now I can totally appreciate this colour. The creamy texture is perfect for dry summer lips, and it works so well with a rose gold eye and winged liner.
What have you been loving this month guys n’ gals?
