January Beauty Favourites

January was such a difficult month for me – from exam prep, to actually doing the tests – I was so stressed out and my social life pretty much died. Because of this, I wasn’t really able to research new products and therefore I didn’t buy many new beauty products last month. However, these are a variety of items that I bought or got sent, and completely fell in love with. Enjoy!

This was another example of hype-busting going wrong. I was so convinced that this powder just wouldn’t be able to cope with my extremely oily skin, but boy was I wrong. It keeps my skin matte for hours, without looking caked on or overly powdery on this skin. Plus the packaging is just so cute, but please accept the bad blogger practice of photographing after using this one, because the embossing on the surface of the powder was just so cute – sorry!

This is a chubby eyeshadow stick that I mentioned in my H&M Haul a few posts ago, and I have been religiously wearing it almost everyday. At first I was really not impressed with the colour pay off, as the intensity of that gorgeous warm purple just completely disappears after you blend it out.

The trick is to apply it in layers to the upper and lower lids, to build up that intensity – this creates a really effortless smoky grunge look. If you prefer a more classic smoky eye, this makes a great base colour for layering with other smoky purple shadows. I’m totally planning on throwing this in my travel bag for my Valentines Break with the boyf as it’s perfect for a quick, fuss-free eye look.

If you read my blog on occasion, you’ll probably know that I have a holy grail mascara that I never stray from – so it’s easy enough to understand that I didn’t buy this myself. About a month a go I was having a little bit of a moan about the tough times of a student-blogger, and the lovely Jaina from Which Beauty Box UK sent me a little messaging offering to send me a box of goodies to try. If you haven’t heard of her blog, you seriously need to get on over there – she does the best beauty box reviews going.

I haven’t managed to try out everything in the box yet because I’ve had exams and nowhere to really go (seriously lonely revision times). This little mascara was in inside the box and got me very curious. My first thoughts were “Oh, I’ll probably never use this because my normal mascara is just that good” then it was more like “…. oooh what if this mascara is that good” so of course, curiosity took over and I caved.

At first I hated this mascara and confirmed that it just wasn’t as good as I hoped, but over time I found that I love this product. That might not mean a lot to some people, but for me, Miss I-Only-Used-One-Mascara-For-3-Years, this is a massive deal. It literally makes me look like I’m wearing falsies, and within two/three coats my tiny stubs are transformed into lovely lashes that I’m proud to flutter. I have been completely converted, thank you Jaina!

I got sent this ages ago and though the craziness of starting my blog, it sort of got lost in my apartment – don’t even ask. But boyyyy am I glad that I found this. It has probably become my favourite skin cleanser ever. I know, I know, this is quite a big claim. However, I sure have a few facts to back this up.

The 3-in-1 cleanser comes with a sort of flannel-type thing that you’re supposed to use to buff off dead skin cells and clear away impurities. However, the formula on it’s own just melts away any leftover make up, so I used this on it’s own the majority of the time. It’s also full of natural ingredients which I think makes a massive difference.

After I use this product, my skin feels like healthy skin – if that makes sense? Usually cleansers leave an after-texture, eg silicon-y, dried, moisturised, etc. But with this, my skin feels like my skin. It’s a simple thing, but I love that.

It’s a really vain comment, but I would never have picked this up from the skincare department of any shop with this packaging. But now I know about all the yummy skin-loving goodness inside, this will definitely be in my shopping basket soon.

I got gifted this beauty by the lovely Charley at John Frieda – and I pretty much fell in love instantly. Charley suggested this for my dead, bleached hair – and it was just what I needed. Unfortunately, I am the biggest klutz on the planet, and I dropped the tub in the shower when I was conditioning my hair. Half of the product effortlessly poured down the drain, and my heart sunk a tiny bit.

Luckily enough, there was still enough in the pot for 4 x once a week treatments (and I have long hair – impressive), and my hair feels so much better for it. Even my boyfriend has commented on the lack of dried frizz that usually characterises the ends of my locks. Hello, new holy grail mask!

Charley also sent me over a duo of the John Frieda Forever Smooth shampoo & conditioner, and although I thought the conditioner wasn’t anything special, the shampoo is. If you have a quick look at any of my selfies on Instagram, you’ll soon see that I gave ridiculously bad baby hairs. Like right by the top of my forehead. They stick out everywhere and if I put a hood up for 10 seconds, I’m like a fluffy duckling. This product doesn’t eliminate this (I don’t think that’s even possible), but it sure does help to tone it down a lot. Usually my hair frizzes a day after washing, and that just doesn’t happen when I use this. Very impressed, John Frieda.

I literally couldn’t believe it when my boyfriend bought me this fragrance for Christmas. I’ve been (annoyingly) banging on about getting some Tom Ford in my life for months, and I am now definitely satisfied. There’s so much to say about this product, so I might need to do a full blog feature on it. In a brief summary: this is amazing. The bottle feels luxe, the fragrance smells luxe, and when you wear it, it makes you feel luxe. 10/10 – Great work, Tom.
