When I think new season SS17, the last thing that comes to mind is layering. My mind lingers on the warmth of the sun on bare flesh, and floaty dresses fill my mind like an idealised Pinterest board. However, the real British summer always has other plans. Queue the unexpected bouts of cooler weather and showers, and as ever, I am always somewhat lost as what to cover up with. To throw over my summer dresses, or pretty blouses so to speak.
What’s just as iconically British as summer rain? The Jack Wills heritage inspired classic layering tool – the Trench Coat. Jack Wills have three gorgeous trench styles available: the classic Duncombe, the Dollyhill Swing, and the cropped Havershaw.
The Duncombe trench is a JW signature, with a design based upon original 1850s army coats – proving that good style and practicality is a timeless mix. It features striking lapels, and double breasted button fastening that oozes that true Jack style. This is definitely the type of coat that can bring you signature style through the seasons – yes, even the unexpected, cool summer showers.
For more classic style enthusiasts, perhaps a simple beige trench coat would be fitting? However The Dollyhill Swing trench comes in 3 beautiful muted shades for the adventurous, which are pastel perfect. I’m partial to the rose variety for easy SS17 (…SS18 & beyond – timeless pieces are definitely an investment) integration and layering, with a pop of colour! It also features sleeve ties – one of this seasons biggest trends, adding femininity and dimension to the shape.
Finally, The Havershaw Trench is similar to the Duncome, but (you got it) it’s a cropped fit. It comes in two easy-to-wear colours, with the charcoal being my favourite of the two. This is definitely more of an outfit-completer piece, with a “throw on over anything” feel to it. Seriously, you could easily dress up any jeans and stripy tee ensemble, and this jacket would make it an outfit.
