Hiya babes, what are you up to this fine (not-so) summers day? Yup, as if summer’s come and gone already? I think the people on the news are onto something with the whole “Indian summer in Britain” as it’s been bloody pouring and god damn chilly outside. I’m personally not okay with this, waiting for the ongoing August showers to halt for just a second so I can take some bloody blog shots has been the bane of my life for the last few weeks. I’m currently curled up on the sofa, in my first knit of the AW season (Asos, fyi) topped off with a big fluffy blanket from Next, having a bit of a sulk about the lost summer month of August.
Anyhow, it’s made me get pretty creative with my closet as I’m currently on the graduate-searching-for-work salary of £0 and my bank balance is not at all prepared for a splurge on a new season wardrobe. An plethora of knits may be on my Wanted List but alas, it’s just not in the realm of affordable right now. I’ve had to get really creative by styling up my well-loved summer pieces in the transition into autumn. The key? Accessories, accessories, accessories, chica!
Zara Red Gingham Shift Dress (last season)
It’s all about switching up the accessories – I’m swapping mules and sandals for a robust classic black boot and small little basket bags for big totes, with room enough to fit an extra knit, umbrella, and even a scarf inside for unforeseen weather situations. However, I’m high maintenance enough to admit that the one item that I’ll be werk werk werkin’ all year round is the classic pair of sunglasses.
Obvz, if you’re wearing a pair all year round it makes sense to buy something high quality, with a timeless design, and adaptability to wear with all types of outfits in all seasons. My all-season pair is the Dolce & Gabbana DG4296* sunnies from Smart Buy Glasses* with a purrrrfect cat eye shape. The cat eye shape really does wonders for my face shape, which is a heart/slightly wide oval. The high points on the outside of the frame really elongate my face and create a true oval circumference (which is face goals, duh).
To transform my bottom half from summer siren to autumn angel, I always throw on a pair of ankle boots. Ankle boots* are must for petite and tall girls a like, hello leg elongation! I prefer a block heel of some sort on my boots, because lil 5ft me needs a daily boost. These studded ones from Public Desire* have been my throw on outfit-completers for the last month and I’m just as head over heels for them as I was on Day 1.
Moving on to my new arm candy – oh you noticed, why thank you – a bloody huge tote is doing things for me right now. This one is from Paul Boutique’s* new AW range, the black croc design is timeless and works with any outfit you come up with and has a really elegant feel (despite the size of it!). It’s big enough to fit all yer junk in it, but also chic enough to wear everyday – bag perfection.
How are you re-vamping your wardrobe for the new season?
*I was gifted these items, however all thoughts and opinions are my own*
