*FOODIE ALERT* If you’re local to the LDN area (or just visit often) you’ll have probably heard of Boxpark. They’re the street food enthusiasts’ heaven, and if you haven’t been yet, I strongly suggest you do. They have a little something for everyone : sweet or savoury, big or small, veggie or meaty, t-total or totally alcoholic. You’re bound to find something up your street.
The new big bear on campus is Black Bear Burger – who promise to provide you with the juiciest, tastiest burgers in the EC postcode. I popped down to have a lil taste of what Black Bear Burger have to offer to Boxpark Shoreditch – and after seeing the pics of their burgers online, they had a lot to live up to…
Me and Alix did the usual and went for two different burgers and split ’em down the middle for the taste test. I opted for the classic Black Bear Burger (doubled up for good measure) and Alix went for the saucy Brisket Burger to boot. Honestly, I could resist the nugget side (and obvz fries) but nuggets are coated in a buttermilk batter that I couldn’t help but salivate over.
The classic Black Bear is basically the original bacon cheeseburger of your dreams – filled to the brim with onion jam and garlic mayo. I actually really like the fact that this burger is no fuss, there aren’t any token lettuce pieces (that I always take out) – showing that this place is really about the meat. Just like the O.G. Black Bear Burger, the Brisket Burger is all about the meat. The brisket was wonderfully soft and not tough at all, plus the pickled red onions added a lush tartness to the overall taste.
The Chicken Nuggets were also a-mazing, and I must say their buffalo dip is probably my favourite… ever. The chicken was well cooked, and the coating is honestly worth going out of the way to try – a successful new spin on the classic nug nug. Oh, and the chips were fab as chips go – FYI!
Even if you head on to Boxpark to grab a snack in the form of Black Bear Nuggets during a trendy weekend adventure in Shoreditch/Hoxton, I would definitely suggest popping down if you’re a fan of classy meaty food. 10/10 Would recommend the classic Black Bear Burger, and don’t be scared to double up – Because if you don’t, you’re going to wish you had!
