Self-Promotion. It’s a scary thought for a lot of bloggers, and I can totally understand why. I’ve always found promoting myself and my skills pretty damn difficult. I’m not sure why, but a lot of us are afraid of showcasing our talents. For me, I always found it hard to promote myself without feeling a tad egotistical and show-off-y. But when it comes to blogging, this is a key element in getting yourself out there, and noticed. How can you expect people to read your posts if you don’t give them an opportunity to find your blog – right? Here are my top tips for successfully promoting your blog, your posts, and most importantly – yourself as a whole.
LEARN TO ADVERTISE YOURSELF
This one is a bit obvious, I know. But I find that the majority of people feel like they can’t advertise themselves on Twitter as they either – a) Don’t want to be “spammy” or b) Feel like people will think they’re trying to hard. I experienced a bit of both, and the idea was daunting. I believe that the key to doing this effectively is to ensure that your Twitter isn’t just a promotion tool. People follow you for you, so be yourself. Let everyone know what you’re up to, express your feelings – get your followers involved.
Obviously, there are times when I have promotion tweets schedules and can’t reply to mentions, or post personal tweets. For that short space of time, my profile can be full of self promotion – the key here is: Let it go. Who cares if x-person unfollowed you because you promoted your post that you spent a lot of care and time on? Can I get a hell yeah!
I promote at least every hour, as I find this really does help in getting my content out there. That’s my personal preference, and I really don’t think it has any negative aspects.
PROMOTE YOUR OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS
This one I think is key in gaining followers on your other social media accounts. How can your Twitter followers see your totes amaze-balls flat lay on Instagram unless you tell them about it? Make sure your followers keep updated on Bloglovin’ so they don’t miss a thing! Again, I post about my social media accounts on a daily basis, every hour or two. Every few days, I have a look at my social media accounts and decide which one needs a bit of a boost. For example, a few days ago I lost 20 followers on Instagram – so I promoted my Instagram account on Twitter to build it back up.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO FOLLOW BACK
I have had a terrible experience with some bloggers who only follow like 50 people (exaggeration, but you get me) – so that they look a Twitter celeb. One person actually contacted me to ensure that I followed them back, because they (and I quote) “strictly only follow 100 people“. And I personally think that’s really sad.
The best part of Twitter is the blogging community in which we’re all helping each other, promoting each other, and sharing that blogger-love. I try to reply to everyone who mentions/tweets me, and I follow as many people as I can without swamping my feed. I love reading up on everyone’s posts, and actually getting to know my followers – it’s something I really enjoy!
This also comes back to other social media outlets, be prepared to follow people back! If you’re looking for people to follow you, you should also be looking forward to following some new accounts, with new content. It will only widen your horizon, and expose you to more content – which definitely helps with inspiration for your blog writing in the long term!
PLAN AHEAD
It’s always good to know when you’re thinking of posting on your blog, so you can let your followers know about it. Tweet about it – shout it from the rooftops! What’s the worst that can happen? The people who are interested will come and check back on your account, and the un-interested folk will scroll on.
GET INVOLVED IN TWITTER CHATS
Now I’m not telling to spam every member of a Twitter chat that you are a part of, definitely do not do that. But a lot of chat members like myself posts a little “send links” tweet after a chat to see what other like-minded bloggers have been loving / loathing this month. I have started following some amazing bloggers by doing this, and I would never have found them unless they popped their blog link in a tweet for me – thank you, guys! So if someone is looking for links, don’t be shy! Send yours over, they’re actively looking for new blogs to follow.

Great advice and tips. I can't believe some people restrict themselves to a specific number of followers! Twitter chats are a great way to self-promote, I also love TweetDeck for scheduling during the night and while I'm at work :)Roxie | The Beautiful Bluebird

Really good advice here! Twitter is so good for promoting your blog, posts and your social media pages. It's so sad how people don't follow back, just because they want to look like a 'celeb' and super popular. I just don't understan haha xLauren | itslaurenvictoria.blogspot.co.uk
Thank you so much for having a read, Lauren! xo
I needed a post like this so bad, hahaha. I'm a little clueless when it comes to self-promoting, so this post was very helpful :)The last thing you listed makes me a little uncomfortable. Not because I don't like to follow new bloggers, but sometimes when someone follows me first and I haven't interacted with them at all, I feel a little stressed because I know they'll unfollow if I don't follow back… I still have to figure out how I'm going to handle that, I guess.x EnvyLost in Translation

Great tips really helpful, I often see bloggers complain about to much self promo but personally it doesn't bother me at all. I promote my posts every two hours and find if I don't my traffic would fall. You mentioned some great points that I'm definitely going to try out 🙂 xDarling Jordan
