Birchbox May 2017 | Unboxing & Review

So you may have been thinking “where the hell have hol’s Birchbox reviews got to” over the past few months. Sorry guy n’ gals! Turns out there was a bit of a mix up about my change of address and my Birchboxes were bouncing back to Birchbox HQ. Not to worry though, I’m back with a Birchbox bang – the May Box.

The theme for this month’s box is – “It’s all in the details” – making an effort to get in close and personal, and zoom in on the aspects of life that really matter. It’s an adorable theme, and the box design is even more god damn cute. Rose gold and marble? You really are treatin’ this month, Birchbox.

It’s the first box to include the new and improved Birchbox Benefits Programme, you have a peek at the benefits of subscribing (both regular and pro) below:

Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in Fifty Shades

RRP – £14.99

Full Size

Yaaaaas talk about an amazing full sized product in this month’s box, ey. I’ve recieved a lot of Marsk products through various beauty boxes, and although they’re not a brand that I immediately think to buy, I always adore their products – go figure, huh? There was a luck of the draw in the Birchbox this month for me, with two different shades of Mineral Eyeshadow available. Note –  If you’re a subscriber you would have been able to pick your preference!

I happened to nab the Fifty Shades (grey, duhhh) shade and TBH I’d have been more with other variety, Vanilla Frosting, as cool shades like greys just don’t work on my skin tone. Bummer.

Anywho, the formula is a loose shadow powder made from all-natural ingredients which makes it great for sensitive eyes and the eco-conscious. Simply dip a brush in (Fix + if you’re fancy like that) and apply.

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

RRP – £9.00

Sample Size

*Birchbox Exclusive*

I’m head-over-heels every time I spot a mascara in a beauty box, my tiny spiky lashes are so welcoming to any new, promising formula that might give me that spider-lash effect. This formula promises to give you lashes with some serious oomph, and apparently mimics the look of falsies. Sounds like the purrrfect formula for me, so I’ll keep you guys updated on my IG story – @holstayy.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age Defying Skin Exfoliant

RRP £6.81

7.5ml Sample Size

Now this sample size might seem a little bit on the small side, but if you’ve ever tried any Dr Brandt products you’ll probably know two things: 1) A full size costs an absolute bomb, and 2) The products are to die for. I loved the sample I recieved of the blue version of this, the Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion, which was perfect for my large oily pores.

This “black packaging version” is supposed to reduce scarring and refine texture, which is perfect for my acne scarred skin. I can imagine that this one will be a gentler formula due to the whole “age defying” thing, but that’s a-okay with me as my skin does get a bit more sensitive in the summer months.

Kueshi Hair Mask Shine & Volume

RRP £2.63

50ml Sample Size

Any product that has potential to help out my dry, tired locks is a winner in my eyes, and this mask is supposed to help out stressed-out hair by nourishing and strengthening – halleluiah. It’s packed with rice proteins, calendula oil, jojoba oil, and shea butter. Oh, and it’s even supposed to boost volume and give hair a glossy finish.

Whish Rice Milk Firming Body Cream

RRP £3.96

22ml Sample Size

*Birchbox Exclusive*

Not too happy to see this brand in my Birchbox this month, however that’s my own personal preference talking. I recieved a Whish Shave Crave sample in Grapefruit a few months ago and although it initially smelt absolutely incredible (it smelt so edible, but don’t be tempted okay), within a few days it starts to whiff like it had… gone off? I had to throw it away and I only really used it once. So I like I’ve just, apty speaking, gone off Whish as a brand now. I’ll be passing this on to someone else, or including it in a giveaway, because I’m sure it’s an entirely different product but I think I’ll be biased on using the product and I’ll dislike it from the offset.

I'm not sure this particular box would be for me but I definitely need to get myself signed up for a subscription box, must be so nice getting little surprises each month in the post.
