So a v. exciting, yet v. unexpected, package popped through the post last week – the Benefit Advent Calendar! I am on the Benefit PR list, but it’s more of a random “we’ll send you new products when they launch” type deal, so I never exactly know when I’ll be reviewing my next Benefit product. However, I’m more than happy to jump on my laptop to do a lil impromptu review of this bad boy as for £34.50, you’re getting a lot of product for your bucks.
This year’s Benefit Beauty Advent Calendar has the theme ‘San Francisco Winter Wonderglam’ and is apparently a Debenhams exclusive. I’m not sure what inspired this San Fran theme at all, as the packaging and products are of the regular Benefit line… ummm? Not really sure what they were going for but the funky pink and green packaging is pretty retro and kinda cute in my opinion! It’s not very elegant, and pretty chunky, but I like that it stands up on it’s own and it’s no-fuss. I feel like this would be best suited to a gal in her late teens to early twenties, as it does have more of a quirky (yet young) vibes to it.
The back of the calendar box gives you an inclining of what to expect during your bi-daily unboxing of this palette. Oh, did I not mention – this beauty advent calendar only has 12 boxes so you’ll have to decide to start the box 12 days before xmas, or one every two days… hmmm decisions, decisions. Anyway, I though I’d let you guys know what to expect behind each door – so if you don’t want any spoilers – Look away now!
Day 1 – High Beam Liquid Highlight
Day 2 – Roller Lash Mascara
Day 3 – They’re Real Mascara Remover
Day 4 – Hoola Bronzer
Day 5 – Gimme Brow
Day 6 – Watts Up! Cream Highlight
Day 7 – Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain
Day 8 – Porefessional Primer
Day 9 – They’re Real Mascara Primer
Day 10 – It’s Potent Eye Cream
Day 11 – Stay Concealer & Eyeshadow Primer
Day 12 – They’re Real Mascara
All of these products are the smaller trial size that Benefit does, but this isn’t a bad thing. I already have sample sizes of High Beam, Roller Lash, Benetint, and Porefessional – So all of the others are a bonus! There are loads of products in this calendar that I haven’t tried before, like the Watts Up! Highlight and the It’s Potent eye cream so I feel pretty good about this calendar all in all.
I have a feeling that this calendar would be better for those who haven’t tried many Benefit products before, or on the other hand, absolutely love Benefit and could always do with samples to travel with. I’m definitely the former, I still have loads of Benefit products to try and hopefully fall in love with, so this calendar really was a winner for me.
Could the packaging be improved? Absolutely, it’s not what a 23 y/o gal find inspo in, but it should be all about the product right? Especially for a bargain price of £34.50, which is reasonable compared to some other beauty boxes which can retail for hundreds of pounds. If you’re looking for a more reasonably-priced high end beauty box to treat yourself with or perhaps gift to a gurrrlfriend, I’d definitely look into this one.
Are you purchasing a Beauty Advent Calendar this year?
