I know a few of you are already a bit peeved that I used the word “fall” instead of “autumn” but hey ho, tomato, tomato…. that doesn’t really work when written out but you get me right?
Autumn/Fall is here, and you know what that means? Pumpkin Spiced Lattes, halloween gifs, IG is full of dead leaves on the floor, aaaaand it’s also the season of badass lippy colours. From golden browns to vampy plums – this season is all about that lip impact. So I’ve thrown together my go-to lip products to make your autumn lip be a memorable one. You ready?
I haven’t worn this shade in aaaaages because it’s a such a warm, orange toned shade – like a red brick. But guess what? It’s purrrrfect for Autumn. This matte lip pencil glides on the lips as a creamy formula but dries matte and feels pretty impressively comfortable to wear. You do need to be careful about touch ups, as layering can cause this to flake a bit (like most matte lipsticks). The shade itself is so beautiful on the lips, and I almost always get compliments about this lip colour whenever I wear it. Con – You need a sharpener as this doesn’t wind up.
This is one of my fave ever NYX lippies, and for good reason. I wore this to Bristol last week and went into Harvey Nichols to stare at Fenty Beauty for a good half an hour (I can’t afford it but a girl can stare huh?). About three of the staff at different beauty counters stopped and commented on my lipsticks and were like “ooooh who’s that by?”
Obviously expecting me to say Tom Ford or something, they were all taken aback when I said “just NYX, huns”. One even said it was a dead ringer for a MAC shade she couldn’t remember the name of. Can’t vouch for that myself, but this is a wonderfully deep vampy red that works well on so many skin tones. Plus – This is the most long lasting lippy formula I’ve ever tried!
I wasn’t going to include this as it’s not really very orange toned, or very vampy, but I’ve been asking what you lot think of the shade on Instagram for the past few weeks and so many lovely gals messaged me to say it looked beaut and asked me for the shade name.
This is Sell Out, a gorgeous nude with peachy undertones. It dried slightly darker than in the tube, which is fab because it becomes this very wearable nude with a difference. The matte finish is also really comfortable, and ensures you wont get any transfer on your Starbucks takeaway cup (filled with PSL). A perfect autumn nude, imo.
I took this for my 10 day trip to LDN last July and it was the only lip product I wore for the whole trip. Mmmmm okay, I lied – I wore one evening plum but that’s it I swear! This shade is puuuuurfect in my eyes, it’s wearable for the day, doesn’t crumble when you reapply and layer it up, and feels comfortable on the lips.
No one talks about these any more and I’m slightly gutted about that, I still love the formula. This one is my ultimate fave out of the bunch though, a true medium brown in a whipped formula that applies wonderfully and looks so autumn grunge don’cha know.
After two whole years of owning this, this is still my favourite formula and shade of the lot. Honestly, this is probably my fave liquid lippy formula… ever. The shade Amore is almost like a burnt berry/plum with teeny tiny shimmers leaving a “sheen” on the lips. It’s by far my go-to autumn lip for no-fuss application and all day wear – Trust me, this product is a tad pricer than the others but is so, so worth it.
What are your go-to autumn lip shades?
Are you more of a berry or a brown-toned lip lover?
