YSL All Hours Foundation | Worth The Hype?

I was considering calling this segment "Youtube Made Me Buy It" because cor blimey is that true. The YSL All Hours foundation is getting hyped to shit all over the internet, from bloggers to vloggers, and one particular vlogger (Tati, obvz) really persuaded me to pick this foundation up. She described it as being oil controlling, all day wear, whilst not looking cakey on the skin, and buildable to full coverage. The stuff sounds like a dream. So is it really living up to the hype?

Packaging

Gawwwwd, I'm a sucker for the packaging of this foundation guys. The bottle is a frosted glass with black and gold YSL detailing. It's minimal, chic, and it feels expensive - Which is the most important thing here. If I'm spending £30+ on a foundation, it better look like I've paid top dollar for it. Luckily, this one looks beaut and I'm more than happy to have it on display on my vanity for sure.

Shades

The shade range on this foundation isn't anything on Fenty, let's just say. There are a few very fair shades, a plethora of in-the-middle light-medium shades, a handful of medium's, and three deep shades. This foundation certainly doesn't cater for everyone, but I think you're more likely to find a match if you're very fair than if you're very deep. It's really a shame as you'd really have to try out a few shades if you're anything darker than medium.

On the other hand, the foundation caters for warm, cool, and neutral skintones - which I love. I'm a gal on the warm side, so I opted for the shade BD25 Warm Beige. The shade B30 Almond was actually closer to my natural skin tone but oxidised orange on me, giiiirl it looked ridiculous. BD25 Warm Beige has yet to oxidise at all so I'm pretty happy with the shade match.

Product

The product itself is quite a thin foundation consistency, and isn't as thick or "moussey" as most full coverage foundations which is great for blending. My personal favourite application is with a damp beauty blender as it really does smooth the foundation on evenly and allows you to press it into the skin for a seamless coverage. I found that with this method you can build from medium to full coverage really well. The finish is a really pretty satin-like matte which makes the skin look flawless without caking it up.

I would definitely note that this foundation can be drying - I have oily/combo skin and more and more dry patches are starting to appear as my skin has aged. I have quite a dry forehead and under eye area and if I don't use a really hydrating moisturiser this does cling on to those dry patches. In terms of my oily areas, this foundation keeps them wonderfully matte and there isn't any slipping or sliding of the product on the skin.

I've worn this for full days (as in 10am-10pm) and yes it does last the entire day without touch ups, at all. I was away this weekend visiting a friend and went to an engagement party on the same day, I wore the same face of makeup from the morning to the end of the night and didn't powder or touch up once - magic.

Overall

The YSL All Hours foundation is the ideal full coverage foundation for normal or combo/oily skin which needs to stay matte to get that longevity out of their foundation. This is definitely not one for the dry skin gals out there, I fear it might just cling to areas you want to mask and a more dewy full coverage would suit a dry skin type better.

Is it worth the hype? Absolutely, holy crap I would 100% buy this again and genuinely think it's worth the price tag. Again, it depends on your skin type but for me, this is my new holy grail status full coverage foundation which is replacing my usual full-coverage-fave: Estee Lauder Double Wear. The All Hours foundation & I have become very, very good friends.
