Lunchin' at Yo! | Croydon Boxpark

Hey lads n' ladies, how are you all doing? Yep, it's another LDN foodie gem here on TKL today. Boxpark Croydon is a bit of a trek from where I live (in N. London) however it was well worth the trip. On this occasion, I popped down to the Yo! restaurant to experience their Boxpark menu and a few of their new street food innovations!

We wetted our appetites with a beautifully presented Tataki plate, composed of fresh citrus flavours and cuts of raw fish. The Tuna, Salmon and Yuzu Tataki (£8.00) was a whole eating experience on it's own - including a pipette filled with chilli ponzu for you to use as lavishly or sparingly as you please. My fave part of this dish was the crispy lotus root crisps, which added a much needed crunchy texture to the dish. All-in-all, I'm a big fan of this one guys - it's more of a starter or something to order with a few smaller dishes, but it's certainly not a dish to overlook.

Then we began nibbling on an absolute treat of a dish called Poke. Poke is a Hawaiian-inspired sushi based rice bowl - filled to the brim with all manner of yummy, fresh ingredients. We nommed at the Ponzu Salmon Poke* (£6.00) which my boyfriend completely fell in love with, which is a combination of Salmon, Mango, shallots, and orange ponzu dressing. It was such a refreshing, yet filling, Yo! dish. I would definitely recommend this as a lunchtime pick-me-up dish for those who like to keep things quick and budget-friendly.

This is a rare occasion, as I'm such a big foodie, but I really did have to pass on the next one. The Ramen-In-A-Roll Sushi (£8.50) sounds like a good idea on paper, in theory. In essence, the ingredients are just what you'd find in a typical bowl of Ramen. Pork belly, fishcake, egg, and bone broth make up the sushi rolls - and then they're topped with crispy noodles. Although these sushi rolls look absolutely delightful on the plate, the taste was just too overwhelming for my palate.

One item on the menu that I can promise you I'll be ordering every time I visit my local Yo! is the Furikake Fries (£3.00), which were such a surprise to me! I honestly did not think these would work, but I can totally put my hands up and admit I was in the wrong. Despite lashings of sriracha mayo, yuzu furikake, aonori, and smoky bonito - these fries stay crispy! Weird ~ but this is so important in a good fry for me. They were so delish, that I actually had to move them away from me to stop myself from munching too much and leave room for some other Yo! dishes. 10/10 would recommend.

If these wings weren't so messy, I'd be a big fan. But alas, I'm a little too high maintenance to take these big messy wings seriously. I did pick the meat off with a fork however, and the chicken was super juicy and full of Spicy Korean Gochujang (£6.00) flavour. These are so sticky and moreish, however the rich flavour made just one or two wings enough for me! My boyfriend polished these off like a champ, and we were both amazed at how huge things wings were?!

Last but not least, I had to request a taste of the brand new Teriyaki Pork Buns (£7.00) from the Street Food selection. The sticky, soft texture of the bun definitely took us both by surprise, but in a good way. It was such a fluffy delight to nom down on! There was just the right amount of filling, but be careful, these are leaky buns! One each was more than enough for the two of us to share, and what a different option to a regular burger right?

All in all, a very successful food mission completed at Boxpark Croydon's Yo! restaurant. My recommendations? The Furikake Fries and the Ponzu Salmon Poke are a must-try but if you're even stuck the lovely staff in the restaurant would be more than happy to give you some pointers!

Have you ever visited Boxpark before?
What's your favourite Yo! dish?
