Date Night At Jamie's | Jamie's Italian Cardiff

Hola Chicas! Last week, the boyf and I were invited to Jamie's Italian Cardiff to trial the evening menu, and I'm so excited to share all of my Jamie's culinary finds with you guys. If you love crab spaghetti it's totally okay to skip ahead, I think it's the best crab dish I've ever had.... Jamie's Italian Cardiff is located outside of St David's shopping centre in town, very close to Mill Lane (aka cocktail lane) and the train station, which makes it super accessible!

COCKTAILS

Obviously, date night wouldn't kick off without some yummy cocktails - and Jamie's didn't disappoint! There really is a cocktail for everyone, even the coveted Aperol Spritz, and most have a little Jamie's twist. I found my new fave cocktail, the Jamie's Mojito (£7.25), whilst my boyf went for something with a twist Grey Goose Le Fizz  (£7.50). All of the cocktails are at a standard cocktail price of between £6.95-£7.50 which I was expecting for a restaurant of this calibre. Worth the price? Totally - both of our cocktails were deliciously refreshing, and quite strong too!

MENU

As there was so much choice in the menu, we thought we'd grab a great deal and somewhat make selecting a dish much easier by opting for the Jamie's Evening Menu. The Evening Menu is available Sunday-Thursday from 6pm onwards, so you can really grab a midweek bargain date night here - without compromising on the location or quality of the food. The Evening Menu gives you the option of ordering two courses for £14.95 or three courses for £17.95.

STARTERS

As we opted for the Jamie's Evening Menu, the starter selection was slightly smaller with only six plates to choose from. However, this didn't disappoint as I had a real struggle narrowing them down - they all sounded delish! Eventually, we settled on ordering the Cured Meat Plank (£6.95 per person) and the Frito Misto (only available on the Evening Menu) and grabbing two forks to share! The Cured Meat Plank had a variety of salami and ham, as well as some buffalo mozzarella, olives, and an impressive purple slaw. As we were sharing, this was just enough to have a little taster each. The Frito Misto was also really surprising as the dish consisted of crispy fried squid and sustainably sourced fish pieces with a garlic aioli (omg) which really meshed well together, and was a little different to the usual Calamari-style dish. However, I did only get one piece of squid in the starter which was a bit of a bummer.

MAINS

There was a delish selection of mains available on the Evening Menu, with the Italian Steak & Fries option being the only one with a supplementary +£3 to order. We both went for a pasta dish, surprisingly, as these seemed like the most unique options. My boyfriend, Alix, went for the Oxtail Tagliatelle with slow cooked Oxtail in a Chianti ragu - ummm, yum?! Although his portion seemed underwhelming, he made it halfway through before announcing that he was "struggling" to eat any more! Apparently the dish was very satisfying, which left my boyfriend wanting to order Oxtail again in the future as it's such a delicate flavour.

I went for the British Crab Spaghetti (£13.75) cooked with chilli, fennel, and white wine - and I certainly did not regret it one bit! I will 100% go back to order this again (maybe with half the chilli though) as this spicy, zingy dish really did get my attention. The chilli gives the sauce a really tart, moorish kick and the dish was filled with plenty of British crab to make for a tasty, filling italian meal.

SERVICE

The evening service at Jamie's was brilliant, and we both felt very looked after by our wonderfully attentive server, Ammar. We had plenty of table water, and this was so important on a 26 degree day in the 'diff and although I couldn't fit in dessert, I made room for a latte (obviously) which was very smooth and went down a treat after my spicy meal. Fingers crossed I'll be back to try the Tiramisu in the near future!
