A Taste of Scandi | KuPP Southampton

When I think of anything "Nordic" I imagine big icy glaciers, a crisp breeze in the air, glowing aurora... but even more so, I think of things done elegantly and classically - which is everything that KuPP Southampton has to offer. From their decor, to their drinks, KuPP has your Scandi senses tingling from the get-go, and knew I wouldn't be disappointed.

KuPP Southampton opened it's doors last Thursday and I just couldn't wait to scurry in and sample their Nordic cuisine at their launch party. We were offered generous glasses of prosecco on arrival and proceeded to perch on a wonderfully laid out bench & table ensemble at the window. We had a great view of the entire restaurant from this spot and spent some time appreciating little details, like lightbulbs hanging, succulents scattered across the tables, and a big neon "KuPP" sign above the bar. I'm such a sucker for details....

I kicked off the evening with a round of cocktails (as always) and opted for the berry-filled Torun, whilst my boyfriend went for the zingy Rabarber & Fläderblomma Cooler (dw, no one can pronounce it!) which is a Rhubarb & Elderflower concoction! To be completely honest with you, we were both completely blown away with the Rabarber & Fläderblomma Cooler, with my boyfriend saying that it's probably the best cocktail he's ever tried.

They're a tad bit pricey at about £8.00 a cocktail, and a happy hour would definitely be welcome here, I feel like it's worth it as a treat. I also had a cocktail with beetroot in, which my boyfriend ordered at the bar - and we both can't remember the name of it! Surprisingly enough, I thought this one was really punchy and robust with lots of flavour. Don't let the fear of beetroot in your fave cocktail scare you, it's such a unique and yummy ingredient to add to a sweet beverage!

Throughout the evening, plates of canapes were passed around and we got to have a little taste of what is yet to come in KuPP. The steak chunks were cooked to a perfect medium, and were really juicy - I would definitely consider ordering steak here. However, obviously, salmon stole the show. There was plenty of salmon going around, as well as Rye bread, prawns, and avocadoes. If you're interested in anything culinary, and cultural, you will certainly feel at home at KuPP.

The main point which draws me in is the fact that KuPP use both seasonal, and traditional, Nordic ingredients. I was expecting to see KuPP using elderflower, fennel, dill, and lingonberry - and I was right! KuPP is certainly the destination to explore Nordic cuisine and enlighten your taste buds. I really hope to visit again soon and try their food menus as the canapes were such a tease! I've got my eye on the Smoked Meatballs Open Sandwich and the 8oz Rib Eye for sure. Until we meet again, KuPP!

Have you ever tried Nordic cuisine?
