Stop Spitting Red & Start Styling Red

Red is the colour of sass, confidence, and sex appeal. None of which I have ever truly identified with, so I've always felt out of place trying to wear red. Note the word trying, because I've really been a trooper. Every season pops of colour emerge in collections everywhere, and although I'm all about that #monochromelyf, I love to surprise everyone (and myself) by incorporating a pop into my usual neutral palette. Blue? Fab. Pink? Uh-huh, honey. Red? Help me.

There really is an air of confidence about pulling off a red outfit, if you do it right it gives off one hell of a fierce vibe. Everyone knows ya gal's got things together and doesn't give a shit if you think it's too bright - She's werkin' it. On the other hand. it doesn't matter how I try, red always seems to look garish, OTT, and try hard - how do people werk it so effortlessly? Red is never a colour that I've embraced in my wardrobe, but spotting streaks of red in the sink has become all too familiar to me.

I've had people tell me that I brush too hard, or too fast, or that I eat too many sweets (I rarely have sugar these days) but honestly, I'm just unlucky. My family has always had issues with weak teeth and gums and somehow the scientist in me strongly believes that I have a genetic predisposition to having teeth and gum related problems. This has lead to me developing quite strict dental hygiene routines, and yep - I stick to them. Although I've implemented in the right brushing technique, and the correct timings, etc, I still have issues with my naturally weak gums and am desperate to try anything to keep them as strong as possible.

Corsodyl is a brand that I'm very familiar with, due to my unluckily weak gums. I had a serious issue with bleeding all the time a year ago and began integrating their mouthwash into my daily routine, and as if by magic, problem solved. So when Corsodyl got in touch to offer a trial of their brand new toothpaste formula, I had seriously high hopes.

I've spent almost a month incorporating Corsodyl Ultra Clean Daily Toothpaste into my daily dental regime to really put the formula to the test. Initially, I definitely had a wtf moment. This toothpaste does taste slightly different to the usual powerfully strong, minty toothpastes, which left me rather shocked. Not in a bad way at all though as it still tastes refreshing, just not too overpowering like very strong peppermint varieties which leave my mouth feeling a bit fragile afterwards.

I became quite adjusted to the taste within the first week of use, and realising that this toothpaste had potential to help my gum problems really did lead to not being very fussed about the taste at all. Pro's and con's, guys. After a strong few weeks of use, I've become accustomed to the taste and I've actually found that my breath does stay fresher for longer. Gum wise? They're feeling much less sensitive and I haven't had a bleeding gums occurrence for the whole trial, which is rather impressive. I definitely feel more comfortable with my dental routine, which takes a weight off my shoulders as it's usually something that I'm prone to get anxious about. With the feeling of stronger gums, I'm feeling confident and much happier knowing that my gums are in safe hands.

In honour of strengthening my gums, I decided to strengthen my style by weaving in some red into my SS17 wardrobe - and boy am I pleased I did. Not only is this Boohoo beauty £15 (IKR, bargain), but it works so well with my Gucci dupes from Ego Official*. Lets be honest, mules really do make every outfit seem that little bit more Parisian Fashion Week chic. I'm finishing off this look with a statement pair of sunnies, & a round pair (similar) seems to mesh the best with the polka dot pattern so I'm working it.

As the evening cold draws in, my go-to is this Boohoo frill sleeve (obvs) summer jacket simply bc it works with everything, and frill sleeves are so on trend right now. Oh, and it only set me back £12, that's also a major plus. Accessories wise, I'm working some bright pops of red into my everyday items like these picks from Lulu Guinness* - the Luxury Notebook* is perfect for stylish note-taking, whilst the Red Lips USB Stick* & Luggage Tag* are on trend nod to red for that gal on-the-go.

Worried about your gum health? I'd suggest taking a look at the Corsodyl website for more information about which dental symptoms to take seriously, and which products are best suited to you and your gum health.
