ABH Modern Renaissance Palette | Worth The Hype?

You got it, I caved. Massively. I gave in and bought the ridiculously expensive (£41.00) Modern Renaissance palette from ABH. I have no shame at all in admitting that I did buy this palette after seeing that everyone and her nana had it, and I did feel a bit left out. Like, what's the big deal? It's just a bunch of warm-toned shadows that you can find in many eyeshadow palettes out there, right? Wrong - & I'm about to tell you why.

PACKAGING

Honestly, I thought I'd hate the velvet-style packaging as I didn't like the original UD Naked packaging of the same style. However (a massive however) I really don't mind it, actually I've actually grown to love it. I adore the bold white lettering and the rose gold ABH signature brand logo too - and helloooo magnetic closure. All in all, I really like the way this palette looks and I'm not really surprised since ABH packaging is always sleek af. My one gripe would probably be that the inside of the packaging is cardboard which has the potential to get damaged easily - but I can 100% over look this due to how beautiful it is.

EYESHADOW SHADES

There are an impressive 14 warm-toned eyeshadow shades in the palette:

Tempera
Golden Ochre
Vermeer
Buon Fresco
Antique Bronze
Love Letter
Cyprus Umber
Raw Sienna
Burnt Orange
Primavera
Red Ochre
Venetian Red
Warm Taupe
Realgar

PRODUCT

I've been trying out the palette for about 2 weeks or so now, and I completely take back my initial opinion that this palette would be quite limiting. There are so many looks you can create with this, warm-toned only obvz, from neutral eyes to intense sunset-smokey looks. I've personally stuck to doing more neutral-pink based eye looks using Burnt Orange/Raw Sienna as a transition shade, Buon Fresco in the crease, Love Letter smoked out in the outer corners, and Vermeer as an inner corner highlight.

Wanna make your eyes pop? Smoke out a bright like Love Letter or Realgar on the lower lash line for some serious intensity. Or prefer more of a bronze smoke-out? A combo of Antique Bronze and Cyprus Umber would be right up your street. Or if you're like me and just need one-swipe-of-shimmer-and-go on busy days, then a light swipe of Venetian Red mixed with Primavera adds that little oomph that looks like you've put in a tonne of effort.

What do you think of the Modern Renaissance palette?
Worth the hype or not worth a penny?

  6. I absolutely love the palette, and it definitely warrants all the hype it gets. However there's a fair amount of kick up which I didn't notice at first but the more I use it, the more it frustrate me. I do think it blends well and the colours are stunning, and it's more versatile that you initially think, I just thought I'd get more use than I do which is a shame for the high price point I paid.

  8. I got this just because of the hype around it, everyone was getting it so i just had to, too. I've found myself only using the same 4/5 shades and not touching all the pinks/reds/oranges
