Eye of Horus | Alchemy Liquid Metals Eyeliner Review

Whilst I knew that Eye of Horus, an Australian brand, was stocked in online stores such as Beauty Bay - nothing from the brand had particularly taken my fancy, that is, until I spotted the Liquid Metals. You know me, anything metallic and I am there. Thanks to the lovely team at Amazing PR, I recieved all 4 shades of the Eye of Horus Alchemy Liquid Metals Eyeliner* to review for all of you! Each eyeliner retails for about £16.50 and is cruelty, nut, gluten and paraben free, oh and they're completely vegan - uh-huh honey.

Eye of Horus claim that these eyeliners:

"Transform eyes with a swipe of Silver Liquid metal electrifying color. Formulated with brilliant mineral pigments, this liners smudge-free, felt-tipped precision applicator allows you to effortlessly highlight eyes with a burst of statement metallic colour."

SHADES

Copper Sphinx* - A warm, rusty toned orange
Imperial Bronze* - A warm brown with a touch of gold sheen
Alchemy Gold* - A true yellow gold
Ancient Pewter* - A bright, cool silver

PACKAGING

I probably don't need to mention it, but this packaging is right up my street. The liners are both sleek and metallic, and I'm all about that minimalist look. This liner is definitely one that I would feel proud to display on my vanity, because it's just that beautiful!

Despite first impressions, the metallic side of the liner is actually the applicator, whilst the black side holds the product. Even now that I've used the products and played around with them, I still automatically think it's the other way round - I know right, weird...

I am in love with the actual applicator wand - the nib is flexible with a precise end and is ideal for creating sleek eye looks. I can imagine that this would be my ideal applicator for a black eyeliner too, as the handle is long enough to give you ultimate control when applying the product.

FORMULA

I had a peep online and found out that the products need to be shaken up before use, as the pigments have the tendency to settle. I gave each one a good shake but didn't find that this changed the formula of the liners, so it's safe to assume mine hadn't settled all that much! I did expect all of the shades to have the same formula, however I didn't find that it was the case - my best guess is that different mineral pigments act differently in the base solution (???)

The Copper liner shade is a gorgeous colour but definitely requires some layering up to get the full opaque shade. It does apply wonderfully on the lid, and works so beautifully as a warm accent colour on a  neutral eye, next to a regular black wing for contrast.

Both the Gold and Silver colours defo reminded me of glitter glue as they went on, and are slightly uneven and patchy upon swatching and application to the eye. The applicator can't seem to evenly apply (or drag) the formula across the skin, if you get me? However, when they dry, the metallic sheen is absolutely stunning on both of these shades.

Even though the Silver shade swatches and dries to the most even finish out of the four, I used the Silver shade on a makeup look for a night out and it just didn't apply that sharp silver detailing. I had to apply about 2/3 layers of the product then I cleaned it up with a cotton bud. However, it did last all evening and all night long without even a tiny bit of smudging - A+ in longevity!

Bronze was by far the best formula in my opinion as it applied very opaque straight from the applicator tip, and the colour is just magical. It definitely applies with a fuller coverage as the formula is slightly thicker than the others and thus it takes a teeny, tiny little bit longer to dry - and I'm totally cool with that. Btw, it also applies really sharply and smoothly, so you can create some seriously edgy eye looks with this one.

Let me tell you, once these babies dry down, they do not budge - like not at all. Oh boy. Even on the lids, the formula totally stays put, which is just fab for those who wear contacts like moi or even those who have a sensitive eye area - yaaas! However, as they dry as almost a gel film, they all tend to flake as your remove them, so a little patience and caution goes a long way.

OVERALL

If I had to pick a favourite shade, it wouldn't be a very difficult or time consuming choice: Bronze is by far the best shade/formula out of the quartet. Tbh, I'm not angry about that at all.

The bronze shade is so universally flattering, on a variety of skin tones and eye colours and could work with so many warm eye looks. It was the one that I was instantly drawn to when I recieved all four, so I feel like it was somewhat meant to be! Don't get me wrong, I am almost equally in love with the silver, but I feel like it would somehow look better smudged out with eyeshadow, rather than attempting to apply it as a sharp line!

It's a shame that the other shades are just that bit more difficult to apply - but once dry, they all look so beautifully shiny and metallic. I do think that if you put the practice in, you could totally make them work on the lid.

Which shade would you pick out of the four liquid metals?
