My Top 5 Favourite Drugstore Contouring Products

Okay, you got me. This post has been requested so many times but I haven't had the time, until now, to actually sit down and write it. So I am genuinely so excited to have finally got round to doing this as I am really passionate about drugstore contours, and they are among my absolute favourites in my whole makeup collection. When it comes to contour products, the drugstore is doing a damn good job of this, so I thought that I would share my top 5 products that are definitely worth investing in.

L.A. Girl Pro Conceal in Toast (£5.00)

This is 100% my favourite cream contour product, ever. It's actually a concealer from L.A. Girl, yet I use a darker colour in the range to add a blendable contour to my face. I like to apply all my liquid/cream products in one, so this goes on straight after foundation (without setting). I apply this straight from the squeezy applicator in lines on my cheekbones, forehead, and under my lips, and then I blend this out with a beauty blender. Then you can set this with a translucent powder, or for an even more striking contour, a contour powder.

This stuff is bulletproof and lasts for hours, and I tend to apply this when I'm dressed up for an event or simply going out on the town. It's worth noting, however, that this product doesn't work when applied in any other way than with a damp makeup sponge!

Now now, this is the priciest of the bunch. But it's totally worth every single penny. I bought this on a whim from the Beauty Bay website when they first launched in the UK a few months ago. I had heard so much ranting and raving about the that I simply just had to have one for myself, naturally.

I ended up picking up my 2nd choice shade Infidelity, which is (cool fair instead of warm fair) and I completely fell in love with it. The shade is perfect for my skin tone as a contouring colour, and the formula is magical. This stuff lasts for hours and hours, plus it always applies even and blends really effortlessly on the skin.

The Sleek Contour Kit is a duo product that comes with a contouring shade and a highlighting shade. The contour powder is a matte texture, and has mid-warm undertones that flatter many skin tones. The texture of this contouring powder is almost silky as the powder is so fine. This does mean that there is a bit of fall out when you give your brush a swirl, however the blending power of this products sure-as-hell makes up for this.

The highlight is a peachy-gold champagne tone and is  probably the most similar to high end highlights out of the bunch,. It has a great shimmery sheen (no chunks of glitter) and feels buttery to the touch. Unfortunately, it has limited staying powder - so a lil' Fix + and you're good to go all day baby.

The earlier version of this contour product was my go-to for months and months when it was first released as the formula is just so easily blendable, this definitely makes it an absolute dream for contouring newbies/first-timers!

Maybelline Master Sculpt in Medium/Dark 02* (£6.99)

I got this in a giveaway a while back, and I was pretty gutted that I got the shade Dark as I thought that this would be way too light for my light-mid skintone. However, after a few uses this became my staple everyday contour product as it glides on effortlessly. The shade is very cool toned and is very similar to Infidelity by Makeup Geek, however this product needs to be built up more for the same effect and the lasting power is more limited.

Weirdly enough, the highlight and the contour shades are both in the same pan - which is awfully placed, as you can accidentally pick up the highlight shimmer on your contour brush. Unfortunately, I don't like the highlighter at all. It's a pretty pale champagne shade, however it's powdery as hell, has little payoff, and has zero staying power. Nuh-uh.

Seventeen Define & Conquer Contour Kit* (£5.99)

Another duo contour kit, but this one is a tiny bit different. The highlight powder in this kit is matte, yes matte. I think that this is a great addition to any kit, as it's just perfect to set undereye concealer whilst brightening up the skin too. I particularly like this because I do splash out the $$$ on high end shimmery highlighters, however I never really invest in matte setting highlights.

This is definitely the most warm-toned contour shade that I have, and whilst this shade would be absolutely purrrfect for pink undertoned beauties, this does come out very "bronzed" on my olive skin. But hey, that's totally cool. Get a contour powder that can do both, right? I am a massive fan of doing light contour with bronzers, especially now that the weather is looking slightly-less miserable. This shade blends out to give a beautiful warm glow to the face whilst lightly chiseling out some cheekbones - beautiful.

  2. Getting the LA Girl Pro Concealers is No. 1 on my list, I just can't decide on what shades to get. Great post, the Barry M Contour Kit is one of my favourites but I have been using Sleek long before contouring even blew up so that is definitely top of my list. I haven't tried many others, great post x

  5. I always think about trying out the Maybelline contour kit, but I always thought the pale one looked a little orangey swatched? Maybe I would be better going for the one you have! I love Collection's Contour kit, and I also picked up Primark's Contour Kit and it's my new holy grail because it's even more perfect. It's like an ashy brown shade so it really is ace for pale skin tones!
