A Guide To Beating Exam Stress






So exams are right around the corner, and what better timing to write a post about dealing with stress, right? In fact, I'm not going to tell you how I deal with stress - because I don't. If you know me in person, you will also know that I am probably the most stressed out person you'll ever meet.
For example, if I'm not stressed, I will stress about not being stressed.

When exam period comes along this causes all kinds of problems for me, and I try my best to reduce my stress levels as best as possible. So here's a few things that I use to try and chill myself out, and hopefully it can help some of you survive exam season with a clear head on your shoulders - and essentially beat exam stress!


RADOX STRESS RELIEF BATH SOAK (£1.70/500ml)

One thing that never fails to chill me out is a long soak in a bubble bath. Even when I'm stressing out over revision, or pre-exam prep, I can remind myself that I get a rewarding dip for all of my troubles. The first product worth mentioning is something that you can literally pick up for pence as it's constantly stocked in 99p/£1 stores, and supermarkets usually have it on special offer. The Radox Stress Relief Bath Soak has been aiding my aching mind for years now, and I think it really does work. It contains Rosemary to relax you and Eucalyptus to clear your mind, which is paramount when exams roll in. 


THIS WORKS DEEP SLEEP PILLOW TALK (£22.00/75ml & 5ml)

After hearing about this brand a lot over the past few months, I had to give it go. Even at the best of times my insomnia is pretty awful, my mind just doesn't like shutting off and I'm always unconsciously finding new ways to stimulate my brain at bedtime.

The Pillow Spray smells like lavender, and this has a massive thumbs up from me. Ever since I was a young child, my aunt would relax me with lavender oils, baths, creams, everything! So I think I may have been programmed to chill whenever I come near the stuff.

The roll-on has more of an uplifting scent, and I've been keeping it at my desk, on hand for those random surges of panic. You give it a rub on your wrists, a tissue, or your sleeve perhaps - and sniff when required. I don't know if it's acting as a placebo, but I have definitely found it soothing to the mind.

LAVENDER BATH SALTS

The name says it all, if it's lavender - I'm in. I find that bath salts add a more soothing effect to a bath, I'm not quite sure why. I use salts that are infused with a calming lavender blend that is sure to sort me out, and they most certainly have helped me through a few troublesome evenings.


THE  SOAP EMPORIUM
LAVENDER, ROSEMARY, & MANDARIN BATH OIL (£9.50/100ML)

This is definitely a more balancing bath product - and is more uplifting than calming. It doesn't produce any bubbles, or change the colour to the water, so if you like a more basic product this would be great for you. I enjoy using this when I need a burst of optimism or to spark innovative thoughts. It is tad bit on the pricey side, but all the fragrances used come from essential oils and a little goes a long way thanks to the concentrated formula.


JOHNSONS BABY BEDTIME BATH (£2.00/300ml)

Now I know by this point you're going to be all like "Hol, you're taking this bath thing a bit far now..." but trust me, this is the best bubble bath product out of my whole collection. Because it's formulated for babies and children, it's extra gentle on the skin - so if you suffer from irritation after perfumed baths, this one is for you! It's also great if you have baths quite frequently and don't want to add  heavily perfumed products into them. The scent of this definitely gets me all sleepy, and it's my favourite product to use when I need help shutting my brain off after a long day of solving tedious equations. 


CAT EYE MASK (£1.50/each)

I always find myself getting extra light-sensitive if I'm stressed out. This means that even if there's the smallest amount of light in my bedroom when I'm trying to sleep, I will most certainly be up for most of the night. The use of an eye mask entourages me to settle down and my mind doesn't get distracted as easily. If you find it tough to sleep with one of these on, why not try to use it with a little afternoon meditation to loosen up a bit.


DO SOME YOGA

Because I suffer from a joint disability, slumping over a desk or laptop can make my life a living hell - and I'm constantly in pain. I've found yoga to ease this pain quite a bit, and I enjoy doing it! The combination of poses, stretching, and controlled breathing really chills me out and makes me feel more grounded.

  4. I love love LOVE the this works pillow spray, I find that if I'm feeling ill or stressed, the lavender scent helps so much. I don't know if its a placebo effect, but it really does seem to work at calming me down and clearing my head!

  6. I've been eyeing that pillow spray, I never thought that those things actually work! I've been starting yoga to relieve day-to-day stress and it's been so wonderful, getting up everyday is a joy :-)
