Milani | Baked Blush Review

As I strolled through one of the Cardiff arcades last weekend I was stopped in my tracks, sitting in a shop display was the oh-so coveted Milani Cosmetics.

Prior to this Milani was like a myth to me, I had never seen the product in the flesh and always restrained myself from ordering them online. I don't feel like you can always get a good enough feel for the product when ordering online.
What if the texture is all wrong? What if the colour samples aren't accurate?
It seems like a recipe for disaster to me, and as a student, I don't have money to burn.

One product that I've always wanted to try was the Milani Baked Blushes, which have had countless mentions by vloggers and bloggers alike. They have been compared to the MAC Mineralize Blush, and are said to be just as good, for a fraction of the price. So naturally I went all out and bought three of them.

PACKAGING

As the packaging goes, I was so impressed. For £6.00 you do get a very luxe looking product, it doesn't look cheap at all. Comparing it to drugstore blushes, say from Maybelline or Rimmel, it looks a lot more high end. Don't get me wrong, the game is definitely given away when you pick it up, as its very light and not weighted at all. It has a generous clear plastic lid to expose the colour of the blush, with gold detailing that is to die for. Its worth nothing that the actual shape of the product is really easy to hold and it fits comfortably in your hand (unlike the squarish NARS blushes). I didn't know this when I bought the product, but the blush itself lifts up to unveil a tiny round mirror and a little blush brush. The blush brush is kinda cute, but I personally wont be using this for application because the bristles are bit plastic-y.

SHADES

The shades that I bought were Luminoso, Berry Amore, and Red Vino.

LUMINOSO

This is the one that I had to have.
My favourite vlogger, KathleenLights, uses this in a lot of her tutorials and as soon as I saw it I had a little embarrassing fangirlish moment. Luckily the lovely lady at the counter shared my excitement, and it made me feel a little less cringey.

The colour is as stunning as I imagined, a stunning colour that would definitely suit every skin tone. The shimmer running through this reminds me of a highlighter, however the soft subtle peach tone does make this a healthy pop of colour on the cheeks.

I wore this blush to meet my boyfriend after work and he said,
"You look really pretty, like really pretty. It's not that you don't always look pretty, you're just glowing today."
And the only difference to my usual daily make up routine was this blush.
When I explained that it was this new brush I was trying out, he said that it made my brown eyes more intense and he told me that I should definitely wear it more often

If I wasn't fan-girling Luminoso before, I definitely am now.

BERRY AMORE

This shade is in the same colour family as Luminoso, yet slightly pinker and slightly darker. It also has veins of gold running through it in the pan, and this disperses over the cheeks to give an elegant glow. What I love about this shade, is that is the perfect pink for me. They say that the perfect blush is the same colour as your naked lips, and this ticks that box. It is very similar to all of my other blush shades for that reason, so this one isn't revolutionary for me.

RED VINO

I really am torn about this colour.
Technically, it makes a perfect autumn/fall blush. In the pan it looks amazing, it's the most beautiful deep golden pink, with further marbling of gold and a darker warm colour.

However, this does mean that is is very, very intense. One light tap of your brush on this blush is enough, and it's very easy to use too much. It is more of an evening/night blush, but if I'm going out to bars/clubs, I would usually wear bronzer/highlighter instead of blush due to my Asian Glow (See this post if you have no idea what I'm talking about). So I genuinely have no idea of when I will actually wear this as a blush.

Luckily the girl who sold me these let me in on a little tip - it's an amazing eyeshadow. On it's own, its too intense as a blush and too sheer to be an eyeshadow. But slightly dampen you brush (or MAC Fix + if you're just that fancy) and it turns into a really wearable colour. Again, I wouldn't usually wear this colour as an eyeshadow, so I'll be saving these for when I feel like applying something a little different this A/W.

PRODUCT

The texture is perfect, literally perfect, probably due to the "baked" nature of the formula. It's not chalky at all, blends well, and is very buildable (which is so important with blush). The majority of us have had the experience of catching a glimse in a mirror and realise you may or may not have been a bit heavy handed with the blush. With this, I don't think it's possible. They have just the right amount of shimmer running through them to illuminate the face. From my experience with three from the collection, I think it's accurate to say that the formula is the same (or if not, very, very similar) for all of the shades so you can order in confidence!

OVERALL

For £6.00 a pop, these blushes are a great edition to anyone's collection - and with 9 different shades, there's something for everyone. Oh and if you're looking for a budget formula dupe for MAC Mineralize, the hype is real and this one is definitely worth a try to save you some $$$ in the long run.(PS Luminoso is amaaaazing).
